about peter henderson

For many years, the author ignored the prophetic passages of the bible, due to the disreputable 'newspaper exegesis' carried on by the more popular writers in the field. The anti-Communist flavour of such diatribes convinced the author that the peddlers of such studies were mere lackeys of the ugly side of the forces of Unites States imperialist self-deception. The author considered such persons to be the mid-to-late twentieth century equivalent of the false prophets or evil shepherds we read of in the prophetic texts of the bible. As such, it was considered that the work of such scoundrels was best avoided.
An aspect of such diatribes the author found to be particularly objectionable was the abiding passion of these writers for the notion that the immolation of the earth in some nuclear conflagration was something that could be envisaged with equanimity, as a mere precursor to the second coming of Jesus.
However, the author's curiosity was aroused when he fell under the musical spell of Olivier Messiaen's Quartette for the End of Time. The heading for the score of that work contains the following quotation from Revelation 10:5-7
Then the angel I had seen standing on the sea and on the land raised his right hand to heaven.
And he swore by him who lives for ever and ever, who created the heavens and all that is in them, the earth and all that is in it, and the sea and all that is in it, and said, "There will be no more delay! But in the days when the seventh angel is about to sound his trumpet, the mystery of God will be accomplished, just as he announced to his servants the prophets."
The cover notes for the recording purchased by the author stated, 'One must not look to this Quartet for an interpretation or even a commentary, but rather the development of a line of thought arising from the insights into colour and rhythm which are individual to the composer.
Thus warned, the author sought assistance with the task of gaining an appreciation of the narrative of Revelation from the 1919 work by Clarence Larkin (presumably it was conceived before the Russian Revolution). This book allowed the author to come to terms with traditional evangelical teaching on the subject in a somewhat saner context. Where such terms as 'end times bible teachers' and 'prophecy writers' have been used, the thoughts will have been gleaned from Mr Larkin, as well as other teachers to whom the author has been exposed.

Most of these other teachers seem to the author to have been rather personable larrikins. Prior to what is referred to as “the fall of the Soviet Union”, they all marched under the banner of militant Christian anti-communism. The flight from whatever it was that Soviet rulers construed as “state socialism” has robbed the afore-mentioned, end-times bible teachers of a lot of their addled “USA and Israel versus USSR and Arab States” end times scenarios.
They seem to have adopted the pragmatic solution of replacing “Christian Anti Communism” with “Neo Conservatism”. You can do an Internet search on that term to work out a definition for yourself. The author sees it as amounting to the old fashioned “might equals right” approach to US foreign policy, with a dash of the very worst aspects of Extremist Zionism. Both these constituents amount to a dangerous arrogance and short-sighted refusal to accord the rights to “freedom and pursuit of happiness” of people around the world. The best protection for nations that wish to assert their own cultural and economic independence seems to be a complete absence of naturally occurring, commercially viable oil reserves.
The author must confess a weakness for the prophetic bible teaching of one of these militant, right wing proponents of US foreign policy. Chuck Missler, as the mouthpiece for Koinonia House ( www.khouse.org ), has provided the inspiration for some of the ideas explored in this work . Mr Missler is the presenter of “66/40” Radio Show, and 'Learn the Bible in Twenty Four Hours' lecture series. The thoughts expressed by the author would probably seem blasphemous and seditious to Mr Missler, so no imprimatur of approval should be assumed by the reader. Neither does the author seek any such approval.
